On October 2, 2026, MP Volodymyr Kreidenko announced that in the event of serious damage to bridges in Kyiv, ferries and pontoon crossings may be launched. These measures are being considered as alternative solutions to ensure transportation connectivity between the banks of the Dnipro River.
Possible Ferry Routes
Among the proposed solutions, one possible ferry route is the connection from «Slavutych» to Postal Square with a subsequent transfer to the metro. This will not only ensure passenger transport but also the transportation of goods, including food and medicines.
Other Transportation Solutions
In addition to ferries, other options are being considered to improve the transportation situation:
- Increasing the number of buses for passenger transport;
- Implementing reversible traffic on existing routes;
- Establishing bicycle hubs between the stations «Slavutych», «Vydubychi», «Arsenal» and «Lvivska»;
- A system of vehicle movement restrictions based on even and odd hours depending on the vehicle's license plate number.
These ideas are currently in the discussion stage and have not yet been implemented, but their introduction could significantly ease the situation in case of emergencies.
