Americans accidentally captured an impressive natural phenomenon known as 'rainbow waves' on video. This effect occurs when sunlight is refracted and reflected in tiny water droplets that form over the crests of waves.
The droplets act like millions of small prisms, separating white sunlight into a spectrum of colors. To see such a 'rainbow in the waves', the sun, water mist, and observer must be at the right angle, which is why the effect usually appears only for a short time.
