On September 21, 2026, Ukraine experienced numerous air attacks, particularly in Zaporizhzhia, where civilian objects and people were affected.
Consequences of the Attacks in Zaporizhzhia
As a result of nighttime attacks on Zaporizhzhia, Russian forces struck several important sites. Specifically, the following were destroyed:
- A shopping center that was completely burned down.
- The oldest building of Zaporizhzhia National University, built in 1902.
According to the State Emergency Service, 5 people were injured, another 5 were rescued, and 14 were evacuated.
Situation in Other Regions
In addition to Zaporizhzhia, air raid alerts were also sounded in other regions. In particular, in Cherkasy, air defense forces shot down six Russian drones, and there were no injuries reported. In Sumy, unfortunately, a woman was killed as a result of the strike from two drones, and her husband is currently in the hospital.
Government Response and International Support
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had a phone conversation with Donald Trump, during which security issues and the possibility of a meeting in New York were discussed. Additionally, a memorandum on fuel storage in Hungary was signed at the G8 Summit, indicating active measures by the Ukrainian government to secure resources amid the war.
