Since the beginning of the year, 340 drone incidents have been recorded at British military sites by August. This is significantly higher than the 250 incidents for the entire year of 2025 and 126 in 2024. The UK Ministry of Defence does not publicly disclose who is behind these drone launches, but the increase in incidents is partially attributed to improved detection systems.
Amid concerns about potential sabotage and espionage, the UK is significantly enhancing its security measures. No-fly zones are set to be established over an additional 160 military sites, and spending on counter-drone efforts will increase fourfold to £750 million. Former Defence Minister Tobias Ellwood believes that many of these incidents may be linked to Russia and Iran.
