The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has confirmed that it does not plan to change the design of 1 and 2 UAH coins in the near future. However, such a possibility remains open for the future, especially after the stabilization of the situation in the country.
Reasons for Considering Design Changes
Deputy Head of the NBU Olexiy Shaban noted that the issue of changing the design of coins has become relevant due to numerous complaints from Ukrainians. Citizens pointed out that the 1 and 2 UAH coins look very similar, complicating their use in everyday life.
History of the Design Change Process
Before the full-scale war in Ukraine, the process of developing a new design for the aforementioned coins had already begun. However, due to military actions and instability in the country, this process was suspended. After the stabilization of the situation, the NBU plans to return to discussing this issue.
Expectations and Prospects
Currently, the NBU does not provide specific timelines for when discussions on changing the design of the coins may resume. However, according to Shaban, the issue remains on the agenda, and in the event of positive changes in the economic situation in the country, the NBU is ready to revisit this initiative.
