On September 24, 2026, Anatoliy Frolenkov, a representative of the internet traffic exchange point, warned that Ukrainians might face serious communication issues due to systematic attacks from Russia on data centers. According to him, these attacks have been ongoing for the third week now, and the situation could worsen.
Causes of Internet Disruptions
Frolenkov noted that since the beginning of September, Russian strikes on Ukrainian telecommunications infrastructure have become systematic. The main targets of these attacks are data centers and communication hubs, particularly in Kiev. The expert warned that as a result of these actions, serious communication problems may arise across Ukraine, including in the western regions.
Recommendations for Ukrainians
In light of potential internet disruptions, Frolenkov urged Ukrainians to prepare for the evolving situation. He recommends:
- keeping cash on hand;
- ensuring the availability of two SIM cards from different operators;
- printing important documents;
- connecting to two internet providers.
The expert also emphasized the importance of not panicking, as efforts are being made to maintain communication for the population. He noted that having a backup home internet connection is essential, as one operator may fail while another can provide service.
Outlook on the Situation
Frolenkov stressed that Ukrainians should be prepared for prolonged communication outages that could last up to half a day. He urged citizens to take measures to ensure their connectivity, as the situation may deteriorate in the coming weeks.
