Democrats in the U.S. are preparing a new aid package for Ukraine worth about $15 billion, according to a report by the Financial Times. This package aims to support the Ukrainian military, particularly its air defense and energy sectors, during the winter season.
Main Areas of Assistance
The planned funds will be directed towards:
- Supporting Ukraine's air defense system;
- Energy support, including the supply of Patriot interceptors;
- Strengthening control over Starlink services;
- Reviewing decisions related to sanctions against Russia.
Political Context and Necessary Support
The aid package is currently in the discussion phase, and Democrats may need support from some Republicans for its implementation. They also plan to include these measures in the National Defense Authorization Act, which must be passed by Congress before the current session ends.
Sanctions and Investigations
In addition to military aid, Democrats intend to strengthen sanctions against Russia, particularly through the so-called “Hellish Sanctions” proposed by Senator Lindsey Graham. They also plan to investigate the business interests of former Trump envoys, including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
