On the evening of October 3, 2026, a 20-year-old mechanic from a tram depot in Kyiv stole a tram and drove towards the "Boryspilska" metro station. The man, who was under the influence of alcohol, explained his actions by saying that he enjoys riding trams.

Incident Details

According to law enforcement reports, the young man, ensuring that no one was nearby, entered the cabin of a reserve tram, started it, and began to drive along one of the routes. To stop him, the police had to de-energize the contact network.

Police Response

After the network was de-energized, the man was apprehended. An alcohol test using the "Drager" device showed 1.41 promille, which is seven times above the legal limit. Investigators from the Dnipro Police Department have already informed the suspect of charges under Part 1 of Article 289 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — illegal seizure of a vehicle.

Possible Consequences

For his actions, the young man could face up to five years in prison. Fortunately, there were no accidents or injuries resulting from this incident.
