On October 4, 2026, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced its intention to intensify strikes on Ukraine in response to a statement by President Volodymyr Zelensky. The President emphasized that Ukraine would not attack civilian targets in Russia but would increase strikes on Russian oil refineries, as funding the war through oil is critical for the Kremlin.

Zelensky's Statement and Russia's Reaction

Volodymyr Zelensky, commenting on the situation, stressed that Ukraine would not strike civilian objects in Russia but is taking measures to destroy sources of funding for aggression. In response, the Russian Ministry of Defense accused Ukraine of attacking civilian targets and declared that their strikes on Ukraine are a "response" to Kyiv's actions.

Scale of Russian Attacks

President Zelensky also reported significant scales of attacks that Russia has carried out against Ukraine over the past week. According to him, the following were used:

  • over 1900 strike drones;
  • 1700 guided bombs;
  • 25 missiles.

In particular, on October 4, a Russian drone hit the Northern Bridge in Kyiv, marking a repeated attack on this site. As a result of the previous strike, two people were injured, and the roadway and trolleybus contact network were damaged.

Attacks on Other Regions of Ukraine

Russian attacks are not limited to the capital. In Sumy, a medical supplies warehouse was hit, and in Dnipro, a communication enterprise was targeted. As a result of these attacks, one person was killed, and six others were injured. These events indicate an escalation of the conflict and a threat to the civilian population in Ukraine.
