The European Union is increasingly reluctant to agree to funding for Ukraine, as the country needs an additional €69 billion by 2027 on top of the already promised donor aid. This is due to budgetary savings and declining approval ratings of EU leaders.
Funding Ukraine: New Challenges
Currently, EU countries are discussing the budget for 2028–2034, which allocates €100 billion for Ukraine. However, such requests are met with growing caution in Brussels. In particular, Germany and several other countries advocate for reducing overall expenditures, complicating the situation for Ukraine.
Prospects for Discussing Aid
Additional support for Kyiv may be discussed at the EU finance ministers' meeting scheduled for October 9 or at the European Union summit planned for mid-October. These meetings could be crucial in determining further steps in funding Ukraine.
