In Germany, men are being forcibly summoned for medical commissions, including 18-year-olds who indicated that they do not wish to serve in the military. Since July 2026, nearly a thousand young men have already received invitations, and this number is continuously increasing.
The German Ministry of Defense reports that all young men who reach the age of 18 are required to fill out a special questionnaire regarding their fitness and willingness to serve. The procedure for women remains voluntary, with a response rate of only 3.5%, while among men, this figure is 96%.
A nationwide draft is scheduled for July 2027, and by that time, 24 modern recruitment centers will be established across the country. As of the end of August, 451.4 thousand questionnaires have been sent out, and the number of applications for service increased by 28% in August.
