Germany is planning a significant acquisition of long-range missiles capable of targeting sites in Russia, as confirmed by sources familiar with the negotiations. The total cost of these purchases will exceed €1 billion.
Details of the Missile Procurement
Among the missiles intended for procurement are:
- Anthem missiles with a range of over 2000 km;
- Ukrainian cruise missiles "Bars";
- Dutch missiles Ruta;
- Hypersonic missiles HS1.
It is known that Germany is negotiating with Ukraine for the joint production and procurement of "Bars" missiles, although the manufacturer of this missile has not yet been disclosed. Additionally, representatives of the German Ministry of Defense are discussing a contract with the American startup Covenant for the purchase of thousands of ground-based Anthem missiles.
Germany's Current Arsenal
Currently, the German armed forces only use Taurus cruise missiles, which are launched from aircraft and have a range of only about 500 km. This limits Germany's capabilities in conducting long-range operations, highlighting the need for arsenal modernization.
About the "Bars" Missile
The "Bars" missile is a medium-range cruise missile-drone developed by Ukrainian private companies in 2024-2025. It has a range of 700-800 km and has already been used to strike targets in Russia and occupied Crimea, as reported by the General Staff on November 13, 2025.
