The head of department No. 5 of the Volyn Regional Psychiatric Hospital, who was dismissed after 45 years of service, has won a court case for over 330,000 UAH and has returned to her position. The court ruled that her dismissal was unlawful and ordered the hospital to pay her 10,000 UAH in moral damages.
Reasons for Dismissal
The dismissal of the head was a consequence of a tragic incident that occurred during the staff's lunch break. One patient inflicted bodily harm on another patient while the medical staff was absent, leading to the latter's death. This sparked public outrage and prompted an investigation.
Court Proceedings
The woman challenged her dismissal in court, arguing that it was unjustified. The court upheld her claim, stating that she could not control the situation during lunch and that her dismissal was an excessive punishment. As a result, the hospital is required to pay her a substantial compensation.
Return to Work
After being reinstated, the head of department plans to continue her work at the hospital. She expressed hope that such incidents will not happen again and that the staff will be more attentive to patient safety.
