Switzerland is witnessing an increase in phone scams organized from Ukraine. According to the publication Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ), Ukrainian law enforcement agencies, particularly NABU and SAP, are investigating a criminal group led by an official from the office of the Ukrainian prosecutor general.

Scam Scheme

According to the investigation, this group utilized fraudulent call centers to carry out their criminal activities. The main objective of the scammers was to launder money obtained from victims. As a result of their activities, the estimated total damage to Swiss citizens and companies exceeded 4 million Swiss francs.

Change in Target Audience

Previously, most of the attacks by scammers were directed at Russian citizens, accounting for up to 15% of all cases. However, due to the intensified fight against cybercrime in Russia, the criminals have shifted their focus to residents of Europe and the USA, indicating a change in their target audience.
