On October 4, 2026, 12 automated turrets were installed in Kyiv to combat reactive unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) known as 'Shaheds'. This innovative solution utilizes artificial intelligence for the automatic detection and destruction of targets.
Technical Specifications of the Turrets
The automated turrets installed in the capital are equipped with .50 caliber machine guns. They are capable of:
- automatically detecting and tracking targets;
- calculating fire for accurate hits;
- effectively combating high-speed UAVs like the 'Shahed'.
These turrets are part of a new air defense system, which also includes the use of F-16 fighter jets and interceptor drones.
Future Plans
According to President's advisor Serhiy Flesch, there are plans to install an additional eight turrets in the Kyiv region. This indicates the government's intention to enhance the air security of the area and reduce risks from enemy drone attacks.
Safety During Alerts
It is important to note that during air alerts, residents of Kyiv are advised to avoid staying near windows. This is due to the potential danger from debris or fire that may occur during attacks.
