The capital is preparing for a challenging winter. As of today, Kyiv has completed 80% of the preparations for the heating season. This includes projects from the Energy Resilience Plan, scheduled repairs, technical maintenance, and the operational response of city services amid regular enemy shelling.
In particular, the centralized heating system is 90% ready for winter. Additionally, Kyiv is creating a backup system so that residents will not be left without heat in case the main system is damaged.
Rescue and other city services have conducted training, and algorithms have been developed to assist vulnerable groups and individuals requiring continuous medical care. Food supplies are also being created in case there is a need for organized feeding.
The modernization of the air raid alert system is nearing completion: over 70% of the city is already receiving more detailed signals – sound sirens and threat notifications, with an additional 50 loudspeakers set to be updated by the end of the year.
Communication channels with city residents are being optimized, and a support system for communication operators has been developed. Engineering protection for critical infrastructure facilities is being constructed, which is one of the key directions of Kyiv's energy resilience plan.
“What our energy workers and other services are doing today in preparation for winter is a new level of experience that does not exist in the world. Unfortunately, it is an experience dictated by war,” said Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko in a broadcast on the “Kyiv” TV channel.
