Kyiv may switch to ferry transport across the Dnipro in case of bridge damage

In the event of damage to bridges in Kyiv, lawmakers are considering the possibility of organizing ferry transport across the Dnipro River. This decision is being discussed in the parliamentary committee on transport issues.

Action Plan in Case of Traffic Restrictions

Member of Parliament Kreidenko stated that if traffic across the bridges is restricted for a long time, alternative ways to cross the river may be implemented. Possible options include:

  • the use of ferries;
  • the establishment of pontoon crossings.

These measures may become necessary to ensure transportation accessibility in the capital.

Reducing Load on Bridges

Additionally, to reduce the load on existing bridges, the authorities plan to introduce reversible traffic. This will help optimize vehicle flows and distribute travel times based on the last digit of vehicle registration numbers. Such measures could significantly ease the situation on the roads.

Encouraging Public Transport Use

The authorities also plan to encourage Kyiv residents to use public transport and bicycles. To this end, new bicycle hubs may be established near the stations:

  • Slavutych,
  • Vydubychi,
  • Arsenalna,
  • Levoberezhna.

These initiatives aim to improve transport infrastructure and reduce car traffic in the city.
