Kyiv prepares backup crossings over the Dnieper in case of bridge damage

Next week, construction of several backup crossings over the Dnieper will begin in Kyiv. Minister of Infrastructure Mykola Kalashnyk announced that the works will last up to three months and are expected to provide at least 50% of the current bridges' capacity in case of their damage.

Construction Plans

The project includes the construction of embankments with pontoon crossings that will maintain communication between the left and right banks of the capital. Locations for the construction have already been identified, and preparatory work has begun.

Additional Options

In addition to the embankments, the authorities are considering the possibility of building quickly assembled concrete crossings. There are also plans for a tunnel under the Dnieper, which would require the involvement of international donors for its realization.
