Starting next week, construction of several reserve crossings over the Dnipro River will begin in Kyiv. The Minister of Restoration, Infrastructure and Transport of Ukraine Mykola Kalashnikov announced this in an interview.
Strengthening Bridge Protection
The main priority of the ministry is to reinforce the existing bridge infrastructure and protect it from potential attacks. Kalashnikov noted that the maximum amount of equipment will be involved to enhance the resilience of these structures.
Pontoon Crossings and Alternative Solutions
Among the new solutions being considered are:
- Construction of embankments with pontoon crossings;
- Creation of rapidly deployable concrete structures;
- Long-term construction of a tunnel under the Dnipro.
Kalashnikov emphasized that the construction of pontoon crossings could take up to three months, and these structures should ensure at least half of the throughput capacity of the existing bridges. These works are planned not only in Kyiv but also in other regions of Ukraine.
