On October 5, 2026, Russian forces launched a massive attack on the Odesa region, affecting industrial and port infrastructure, as well as the cottage sector. Significant fires were reported, necessitating urgent response efforts.
Large Fires and Their Consequences
As a result of the attack, numerous fires broke out, particularly in industrial areas and cottage houses. Firefighters operated under extremely challenging conditions, including high temperatures and repeated air raid alerts. To manage the aftermath, the following were involved:
- over 90 firefighters from the State Emergency Service;
- the Association of Volunteer Firefighters of Ukraine.
Fortunately, preliminary reports indicate that there were no casualties or injuries. All fires have been extinguished, and efforts to mitigate the consequences of the attack are ongoing.
Radiation Safety Checks
Due to the significant smoke, specialists from the radiation, chemical, and biological protection service of the State Emergency Service of Odesa conducted an area survey. Measurements showed no hazardous substances, and the radiation background remains normal. The reasons for conducting such checks were not detailed, but they were deemed necessary due to the aftermath of the fires.
