Massive missile strike on Ukraine: consequences for civilians and infrastructure

Today, October 7, 2026, the Russian army launched a massive missile strike on Ukraine, resulting in casualties and damage to residential buildings. The strike occurred on the birthday of Russian President Vladimir Putin, which sparked outrage among Ukrainians.

Consequences of the attack in Pryluky

In the city of Pryluky in Chernihiv region, Russian missiles destroyed a typical five-story building. As of now, it is known that:

  • five people have died;
  • 26 people were injured, including five children;
  • there may be people trapped under the rubble.

Rescuers are working continuously at the scene, trying to find anyone who might have remained in the building.

Strikes on other cities

In addition to Pryluky, the strikes also affected:

  • five apartment buildings in Dnipro;
  • four high-rise buildings in Kremenchuk;
  • a residential building in Zaporizhzhia, damaged by a drone;
  • two people killed in Kyiv;
  • two people killed in Oleksandriia.

Overall, during the night, the infrastructure of Kyiv and 12 regions was under attack.

Strategic objectives of the attack

According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, one of the key targets of the Russian forces was the Ukrainian energy sector. The attack included:

  • 70 missiles, many of which were ballistic;
  • the use of drones such as Shahed.

Zelensky noted that only a portion of the missiles were intercepted, and Russian ballistic missiles remain the biggest challenge for Ukrainian air defense. He emphasized the need for new air defense packages, particularly missiles for the Patriot system, which can protect lives in the Ukrainian sky.
