In the Irkutsk region of Russia, the death of a laboratory technician working at a plague research institute has led to the introduction of quarantine measures at Shelekhov hospital, with around 200 individuals placed under observation.
Circumstances of the Technician's Death
The laboratory technician, whose name has not been disclosed, worked at the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Institute. According to local sources, on September 25, she broke a test tube containing the pathogen of pneumonic plague. Following this incident, her health began to deteriorate.
She was hospitalized at Shelekhov District Hospital, where she spent three days. Unfortunately, she passed away on the night of October 2. This case has raised concerns among medical staff and local residents.
Quarantine and Safety Measures
In response to this incident, a quarantine has been established at Shelekhov hospital. Approximately 200 individuals who may have come into contact with the deceased technician are under medical observation. This includes:
- Medical staff who provided care to the technician.
- Patients who were in the hospital at the same time.
- Individuals who may have been in contact with her prior to hospitalization.
The authorities are conducting an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident and to prevent a potential outbreak.
