On September 21, 2026, Zaporizhzhia experienced a massive bombardment, resulting in the destruction of the third building of Zaporizhzhia National University (ZNU), which was built in 1902. This occurred during a nighttime strike by Russian forces, which also led to damage to other significant structures.
Consequences of the Shelling
The shelling of Zaporizhzhia affected not only the educational institution but also other important facilities:
- The shopping center 'Intrade' was set on fire;
- Multi-storey residential buildings were damaged;
- Reports indicate that five people were injured.
Attack on Dnipropetrovsk Region
In addition to Zaporizhzhia, Russian troops also attacked the Dnipropetrovsk region. According to reports, in the Nikopol district, the following areas were affected:
- Nikopol city;
- Marhanets community;
- Chervonohryhorivka community.
As a result of the shelling, a multi-apartment building was damaged, and a 20-year-old woman was injured and hospitalized in moderate condition.

Rescue services are actively working to mitigate the aftermath of the attacks. It is reported that in the Bucha and Fastiv districts, rescuers extinguished several fires, but no fatalities or serious injuries have been recorded.
