The Russian Federation intends to increase the speed of its jet drones to 800-900 km/h. Currently, these unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) can fly at speeds of up to 600 km/h. This was reported by the deputy commander of the Ukrainian Air Forces.
Current State of Drone Usage
Since July 2026, Russia has significantly increased the use of jet unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Currently, approximately 40% of all UAVs in use are jet-powered. Forecasts indicate that this percentage may rise to 80% in the near future.
Challenges for Air Defense
The increase in the speed of jet drones will complicate their interception. The deputy commander of the Air Forces noted that the supply of new interceptors in the necessary volumes is expected no earlier than the end of November 2026. This creates additional challenges for Ukrainian air defense, which is already actively working on enhancing its capabilities.
Collaboration with Manufacturers
To improve countermeasures against Russian drones, the Ukrainian Air Forces are actively collaborating with 20 manufacturing companies. Specifically, 14 companies are already conducting test flights of new systems that could be used for intercepting jet UAVs. This indicates Ukraine's active efforts to strengthen its defense capabilities.
