The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has announced that Russia will host the World Weightlifting Championships in 2030. This marks the first time since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine that an international federation has designated Russia as the host for such a high-level tournament.

Distribution of World Championships for 2028-2030

The IWF committee has determined the locations for four World Championships to be held between 2028 and 2030:

  • 2028 — Pristina (Kosovo) — Youth World Championships;
  • 2028 — Caracas (Venezuela) — Junior Championships;
  • 2029 — Ahmedabad (India) — Senior World Championships;
  • 2030 — Moscow (Russia) — World Championships.

Comments from IWF Secretary General

IWF Secretary General José Quiñones remarked that all the bids received were excellent and expressed confidence that the championships in these countries would be a great success. He also highlighted that three out of the four countries — Kosovo, Venezuela, and India — will be hosting IWF events for the first time, indicating the growth of the sport worldwide.
