According to recent reports, the Russian Federation is using artificial intelligence to create content aimed at discrediting candidates in the US Congress who support Ukraine. This information has been confirmed by representatives from both chambers of Congress based on a report from American intelligence, indicating an increase in Russian activities on social media.
Use of AI for Disinformation
Intelligence sources indicate that Russian "bots" are increasingly employing AI-generated content to spread false information. For instance, a group linked to Russia, named Storm-1516, recently published deepfake videos on social media platform X, accusing Texas Senate candidate James Talarico of sexual assault. These videos quickly gained traction and spread among users.
Situation with Electoral Infrastructure
Despite the active disinformation efforts, American intelligence has not found evidence of hacking of electoral infrastructure. This suggests that, at this time, there are no grounds to claim direct interference in the elections. However, the situation raises concerns about potential implications for the democratic process in the United States.
