On October 30, 2026, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) together with the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR) detained a Russian agent operating within the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). The perpetrator, recruited by the FSB, transmitted coordinates of Ukrainian military facilities and adjusted enemy strikes in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia directions.
Agent's Methods of Concealment
To ensure his concealment, the agent used 18 smartphones, regularly changing SIM cards. According to the investigation, he updated his phone numbers every two days, totaling 77 changes. This allowed him to remain undetected while relaying information to the enemy.
Detention and Consequences
The perpetrator was apprehended after he voluntarily left his military unit, planning to "lie low" in Odesa and Mykolaiv. SBU operatives took preemptive measures to protect Ukrainian military positions, which helped avoid potential casualties among servicemen. The detainee has been charged with high treason and unauthorized departure from a military unit. He is currently held in custody without the right to bail.
Threat of Life Imprisonment
For his actions, the traitor faces life imprisonment with asset confiscation. The investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement continues to gather evidence to hold him accountable.
