On the night of September 28, 2026, Russia launched a series of brutal attacks on Ukrainian regions, causing significant damage to residential buildings and critical infrastructure. Kharkiv was the most affected, with numerous casualties and injuries reported following a strike on a high-rise building.
Consequences of Attacks in Kharkiv and Kyiv
In Kharkiv, a Russian strike partially destroyed the second and fourth floors of a high-rise building. As of now, 28 injured individuals have been reported, including nine children. Unfortunately, there are fatalities. In the Kyiv region, drone attacks also resulted in damage to residential buildings, communication facilities, and gas stations. Notably, a café was destroyed, and there was an attempt to set fire to a food market.
Attacks on Other Regions
In addition to Kharkiv and Kyiv, Russian forces targeted several other regions:
- Odesa region: strike on a vessel flying the flag of Palau.
- Zhytomyr region: damage to an ice cream factory.
- Sumy, Rivne, Kharkiv, and Odesa regions: strikes on residential buildings.
- Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk, Khmelnytskyi, and Zaporizhia regions: attacks on critical infrastructure.
Emergency services are working in all affected regions to mitigate the aftermath of the attacks and provide assistance to those injured.
Government Response and International Support
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and injured. He also emphasized the importance of international support for Ukraine, calling for the provision of air defense systems, energy support, and assistance in covering budget deficits. "Clear solutions are needed that truly strengthen Ukraine," the president stated.
