On the night of October 5, 2026, Russia launched a massive drone attack on Ukraine, deploying 205 strike UAVs of various types, including Shahed, Gerbera, and imitation drones. As of 08:00, Ukrainian air defense shot down 172 enemy drones.
Details of the Attack
The attack began around 18:00 on October 4 and continued into the morning of October 5. Enemy drones were launched from several directions, including:
- Orel
- Kursk
- Shatalovo
- Millerovo
- Primorsko-Akhtarsk
- TOT Donetsk
- TOT AR Crimea – Hvardiyiske
Ukraine's air defense, which included aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, and mobile fire groups, successfully countered the attack. However, enemy drone strikes resulted in damage at 13 locations, and debris from shot-down UAVs fell at 3 locations.
Impact on Regions
The attack caused serious consequences in several Ukrainian regions:
- Kharkiv: as a result of the strike, one man was killed, and at least six others were injured. The attack hit the Industrial District, damaging residential and administrative-production buildings.
- Odesa region: the attack on industrial infrastructure caused a large fire. In another area of the region, summer houses caught fire. The radiation background remains within normal limits.
- Zaporizhzhia: the enemy struck an infrastructure facility in the city, with details of the damage currently being clarified.
The attack is ongoing, with about ten enemy UAVs still in the airspace. Ukrainian defense forces urge the population to follow safety rules.
