On September 20, 2026, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), together with other defense forces, struck an oil refinery in Moscow, located in the Kapotnya area, just 15 km from the Kremlin. The attack resulted in a massive fire at the facility.
Details of the Attack on the Refinery
The strike was carried out using long-range drones from the SBU's Special Operations Center "Alpha," which covered over 500 km, bypassing the layered Russian air defense. The Moscow refinery is one of the key enterprises in the Russian oil refining industry, capable of processing over 11.6 million tons of oil annually.
Importance of the Moscow Refinery
This refinery supplies up to 35% of the fuel needs of Moscow and the surrounding region. The main products produced by the facility include:
- Gasoline
- Aviation kerosene
- Diesel fuel
- Fuel oil
Additionally, the refinery is the primary supplier of aviation fuel for Moscow's airports.
