Senator Richard Blumenthal has initiated an investigation into the restrictions on Starlink operations for Ukraine. This decision has raised concerns among military and civilian personnel, as it may jeopardize their safety.
Purpose of the Investigation
Blumenthal, who is a senior member of the Democratic Party on the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, aims to determine whether the decision to change the terms of service was made at the direction of the White House, the Pentagon, or the company SpaceX.
Security Threat
The senator believes that the restrictions on Starlink could pose a threat to both Ukrainian military personnel and civilians. He noted that this issue raises serious doubts about the control over critically important resources, on which the US government has spent billions of dollars.
Request to the Pentagon
Blumenthal has already reached out to the Pentagon for clarification regarding this incident. He expects a response in the coming days. In his letter to Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth, the senator emphasized that the situation raises urgent questions about who has the technical and legal authority to alter the operational parameters of such systems.
