On October 26, 2026, the 'Student List' party, which won the parliamentary elections in Serbia, announced its intention to halt all arms exports from the country to conflict zones. This decision also applies to sales to Western intermediaries who transfer arms to Ukraine.
Halting Arms Supplies to Ukraine
Representatives of the 'Student List' confirmed that the new government will not support the supply of arms to Ukraine, which could complicate the situation with armaments for Ukrainian forces. They stated that this decision is part of their policy aimed at reducing military supplies to conflict zones.
Position on Sanctions Against Russia
In addition to halting arms exports, the new government of Serbia also does not plan to impose sanctions against Russia. Party representative Jovo Bakic emphasized the importance of historical ties between Serbia and Russia, calling Russia a 'great power' and 'historically important partner'. He claimed that sanctions would not affect Russia but could have a negative symbolic significance for Serbia.
Economic Ties with Russia
Furthermore, the new government plans to continue purchasing gas and oil from Russia. This decision underscores Serbia's intention to maintain close economic ties with Moscow despite international pressure.
