The US and its NATO allies are actively seeking ways to supply Ukraine with missiles needed for the Patriot system to protect it from Russian strikes this winter. However, this task is quite challenging due to the shortage of the missiles themselves.
The issues with missile supply are not related to insufficient funding for the PURL program, but rather to a lack of production capacity. Matthew Whitaker, the US Permanent Representative to NATO, noted that the situation could improve in two years when the ongoing initiatives begin to yield results.
Whitaker also emphasized that discussions are currently underway regarding the idea of joint production of Patriot missiles in the Czech Republic, which could help address the supply issue.
