US President Donald Trump announced that the United States has gained permanent security powers in Greenland as part of agreements with Denmark and Greenland. Trump emphasized that Washington will be able to 'forever' carry out all necessary actions on the island to ensure security, without requiring financial expenditures from the US.
The duration of these agreements has not yet been determined. Trump also noted that no adversarial country will be able to establish a military base on the island without written consent from Washington.
The US intends to expand its military presence in Greenland. Denmark and Greenland confirmed that the signing of the agreement is expected next week, although the document still needs to go through parliamentary procedures.
