US President Donald Trump announced an agreement with Denmark and Greenland that grants the United States permanent control over the security of the world's largest island. According to Trump, Washington will be able to take necessary measures to ensure Greenland's security indefinitely, and this will not require any expenses from the US.
The agreement also stipulates that no US adversary will be able to establish a military base on the island without written permission from Washington. The US intends to significantly expand its military presence in Greenland.
Denmark and Greenland confirmed that the signing of the agreement is expected next week, although the document still needs to go through parliamentary procedures. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen stated that this agreement will strengthen joint security in the Arctic and North Atlantic regions and will be significant for NATO and Europe.
