In Europe, two Ukrainian leaders have suddenly died within three days. Pavel Sadokha, the chairman of the Union of Ukrainians in Portugal, was reported dead on September 13, while Roman Rodik, the chairman of the Ukrainian Youth Community in Catalonia, was reported dead on September 16.
According to Rodik's wife, Elena, the cause of his death was a heart attack. He suddenly collapsed and died on the basketball court during practice. Rodik's colleague, Vera Zvaan, noted on social media that he was "an absolutely healthy person," who did not consume alcohol, did not smoke, and was active in sports.
As of September 19, Spanish law enforcement and Catalan emergency services had not released any official statements regarding the investigation into the Ukrainian's death.
In Portugal, however, authorities have already begun an investigation into Sadokha's death. He was found dead in a hotel in the Algarve, where he had traveled on a business trip. According to media reports, authorities believe that the death was due to natural causes. Sadokha had pre-existing heart conditions, and police at the scene found no evidence of foul play. However, to rule out any third-party involvement in his death, a "full and thorough" autopsy has already been conducted, including toxicological tests, with results expected within three weeks to a month.
