The UK has announced a £54 million aid package for energy and humanitarian support to Ukraine. This decision comes ahead of the fifth winter of the ongoing full-scale war in Ukraine.
Purpose of the Funding
The allocated funds will be directed towards:
- repairing energy infrastructure;
- providing backup power;
- supporting heating;
- water supply for Ukrainians.
Visit of the Foreign Secretary
The announcement of the new aid package was made by Ed Miliband, the UK Foreign Secretary, during his first visit to Ukraine in this role. During the visit, he met with President Volodymyr Zelensky and Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
Visit to Pryluky
Miliband also visited the site of a Russian strike in Pryluky, Chernihiv region, highlighting the seriousness of the situation in Ukraine and the need for international support.
