Ukraine Launches Medical Logistics Project Using Drones

On October 16, 2026, the Ukrainian government decided to launch an experimental project involving the use of drones for medical logistics. The first site for this project will be the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

Technical Capabilities of Drones

The Heart Institute already possesses three specialized drones capable of covering distances of up to 700 km and landing at hospital sites. These drones will be used to transport medical supplies such as:

  • medications;
  • donor organs;
  • blood samples for analysis;
  • medical products.

This initiative aims to significantly reduce the delivery time of medical supplies, especially from remote areas.

Safety and Flight Approvals

Drone flights will be coordinated with military authorities, ensuring an additional level of safety. The drones will receive a special status for aerial identification, and specific operational rules will be developed for them during air alerts. This will include the possibility of landing at a backup site if necessary.

The Future of Medical Logistics in Ukraine

The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine. In the future, based on this experiment, there are plans to create a Ukrainian system for managing the flights of civilian drones, which could significantly enhance medical logistics in the country.
