On September 24, 2026, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine announced plans to relocate some border checkpoints to neighboring countries due to ongoing Russian shelling. Kyiv is already negotiating with all neighboring states to establish joint checkpoints on their territory.
Reasons for Relocating Checkpoints
According to First Deputy Minister Sergey Derkach, the primary goal of this decision is to protect border infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted logistics. Given the increasing attacks on Ukrainian checkpoints, such as "Starakazachye" and "Orlovka," as well as facilities near "Yahodyn," relocating checkpoints has become a necessary step.
Joint Checkpoints with Poland and Moldova
Currently, a similar scheme is already partially implemented with Poland and Moldova. Derkach noted that joint checkpoints significantly expedite customs and border control procedures. This, in turn, positively affects the logistics of goods between countries.
Evacuation of Polish Border Crossings
The situation in border areas remains tense. Today, Poland temporarily evacuated two of its border crossings due to Russian strikes near the border. This fact underscores the urgent need for measures to protect infrastructure and ensure safety at the borders.
