Ukraine Will Not Agree to Permanent Agroexport Restrictions for EU Membership

Ukraine will not agree to join the European Union under conditions of permanent restrictions on agroexports. This was stated by Agriculture Minister Taras Vysotsky in a comment to Politico.

Ukraine's Position on Agroexports

Vysotsky emphasized that there is a fundamental difference for Ukraine between transitional and permanent restrictions. He noted that the country is ready for transitional restrictions on sensitive agricultural products, but permanent restrictions would contradict the logic of full EU membership.

European Commission's Proposals

The European Commission proposed to limit Ukraine's access to the EU market and financial support for sensitive agricultural products. Instead, Brussels plans to help Ukraine restore exports to "historical" markets in Africa and the Middle East.

Readiness for Transitional Quotas

Vysotsky also stated that Ukraine is ready for:

  • transitional quotas;
  • phased introduction of agricultural support;
  • protective measures for specific goods.

However, he emphasized that such restrictions should have a clear end date to avoid hindering the development of the country's agricultural sector.
