Today, October 27, 2026, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language. This holiday is an important element of the cultural identity of Ukrainians, promoting the native language.
History of the Holiday
The Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language was established in 1997. Initially, it was celebrated on November 9, but in 2023, the date was moved to October 27, coinciding with the commemoration of Nestor the Chronicler. This holiday has become a symbol of the preservation and development of the Ukrainian language, as well as an important moment for uniting Ukrainians.
National Unity Radio Dictation
One of the main traditions of the holiday is the National Unity Radio Dictation. This year's dictation, which will take place at 11:00 AM, is titled "The Letter That Never Ends," authored by writer and veteran Artur Dron. In 2026, the event will be held in a special format, with two hosts: Artur Proidakov and Dasha Astafieva reading the dictation.
The broadcast will be available:
- on the waves of Ukrainian Radio;
- on the "Suspilne Culture" TV channel;
- on YouTube;
- in the suspilne.radio and "Diya" applications.
Social Aspect of the Event
This year's Radio Dictation also has a social component — during its conduct, funds will be raised for the development of drone air defense within the framework of the "Come Back Alive" fund project. This emphasizes the importance of supporting the Ukrainian army and protecting the country in the face of modern challenges.
