On October 10, 2026, the United States threatened Ukraine with a halt in intelligence sharing if Kyiv does not stop strikes on Russian oil refineries.
Reasons for the Threat
According to information released by Axios, representatives of the US administration, including Whitcoff and Kushner, expressed concern over rising fuel prices in the US, which they believe are a result of attacks on Russian refineries. They noted that Volodymyr Zelensky has ignored six requests from the US to cease these strikes.
Response from Ukraine
In response to these threats, a Ukrainian official confirmed that such ultimatums were indeed made. However, the American side denies that the threat was articulated in such a manner, claiming it was merely a reminder of the importance of the partnership between the countries.
Peace Proposals and Future Actions
Additionally, in the context of the US threat, new peace proposals are being discussed that could be presented to both Ukraine and Russia. According to an American official, Vladimir Putin is allegedly open to discussing an end to the war, and the US aims to develop a proposal that would be sufficiently attractive for the Kremlin to agree to peace negotiations.
