A wave of false bomb threats targeting planes has swept across Europe, affecting at least seven passenger flights, including two from the United Kingdom. The bomb threats led to forced or unscheduled landings of aircraft, as well as temporary shutdowns of some airports, such as Warsaw-Modlin.
Response from Security Services
Security services in Poland, Spain, Bulgaria, and Italy conducted thorough inspections of all flights, utilizing dogs and bomb technicians. As a result of these checks, no explosive devices or suspicious items were found, confirming that the threats were false.
Affected Flights
Among the flights that were affected by the false bomb threats were:
- Heathrow — Warsaw
- Manchester — Murcia
- Bergamo — Sofia
- Dublin — Sofia
Origin of the Threats
At this time, it remains unclear who exactly sent the threats, as some were received via email. Aviation security experts speculate that this coordinated surge of hybrid threats in Europe may be linked to the intelligence services of Russia or Iran.
