Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a significant statement during an interview with Fox News regarding potential strikes on Russian refineries. He indicated that if the U.S. wants Ukraine to refrain from such actions for a month, it is essential to provide Ukraine with Patriot air defense systems.
Conditions for Refraining from Strikes
Zelensky clearly articulated his stance that modern defense systems are necessary to avoid attacks on Russian refineries. He emphasized that:
- Patriot systems are crucial for ensuring Ukraine's security.
- This could help prevent escalation of the conflict.
- The appeal is directed not only to the U.S. but also to the international community.
Political Context
Zelensky also stressed that he has a duty to speak the truth about the situation in Ukraine. He noted that Donald Trump, the former U.S. president, should not and cannot support Vladimir Putin amid the aggression against Ukraine. This highlights the importance of international support for Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.
