On September 26, 2026, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on U.S. President Donald Trump to impose sanctions against Russia under Lindsey Graham's law. This law provides for tariffs of up to 100% on imports from countries that financially support Russia's war.
Appeal to the International Community
Zelensky also reached out to António Costa, the Prime Minister of Portugal, and Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, urging them to strengthen the European Union's sanctions pressure on Russia. The Ukrainian President emphasized the importance of collective efforts to achieve peace.
Situation on the Frontline
During the night, Russian attacks resulted in 14 injuries, with two fatalities reported in Zaporizhzhia. Strikes targeted residential buildings in cities such as Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa region, Sumy region, and Kharkiv region. Civilian infrastructure was also damaged, including:
- a kindergarten in Kyiv
- a lyceum in the Kyiv region
- a university in Kharkiv
- energy facilities in Poltava, Mykolaiv, and Vinnytsia regions
Zelensky noted the importance of international partners not forgetting the ongoing escalation of the conflict and taking appropriate measures to prevent further aggression from Russia.

The Ukrainian President stressed the need for new sanctions against Russian oligarchs and the restriction of trade with Russia until it halts its war. According to him, only through collective efforts can peace in the region be achieved.
