Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky commented on Russia's demands for security guarantees, stating that he does not understand why an aggressor would need such guarantees. According to him, it is Ukraine that requires protection, as it has been attacked.

Russia's Demands and Their Context

Zelensky emphasized that Russia seeks not only guarantees of non-aggression but also a separate agreement with the USA or NATO, which could significantly alter the European security system. He noted that such demands are absurd, given that Russia itself is the aggressor in this conflict.

Ukraine's Position on Territories

The President also commented on Russia's demands through the USA regarding leaving territories that have not been captured. According to Zelensky, this is an “unhealthy idea” that contradicts common sense:

  • Russia demands that Ukraine abandon territories it could not capture.
  • Ukraine's position is to cease fire along the current front line without recognizing the occupied territories.

Unacceptability of Decisions Made Without Ukraine

Zelensky also stressed that making decisions about Ukraine's fate without its participation is unjust and unproductive. He pointed out that many leaders have attempted to resolve Ukraine's issues without its involvement, but none of these initiatives have yielded results. “We will not give up our territories, but of course, Russia wants them,” he stated.
