A study revealed that individuals who slept approximately 1 hour and 26 minutes longer on weekends had a 9% lower risk of developing hypertension. This connection was particularly noticeable among those who lead a sedentary lifestyle.
During normal sleep, blood pressure and heart rate typically decrease, allowing the cardiovascular system to recover. Conversely, regular sleep deprivation can hinder proper blood pressure control.
However, experts do not recommend intentionally depriving oneself of sleep during the week to catch up on weekends. Consistent and adequate sleep every day remains more important.
